Indian Philosophy (or Darshana, in Sanskrit), is distinguished from other philosophies as they emphasize upon the experiential aspects mind. Many traditions of philosophical system that originated in the Indian subcontinent, include Hindu philosophy, Buddhist and Jain philosophy.
Astika schools of Indian philosophy system are those codified during the medieval period of Brahmanic-Sanskritic scholasticism, and they take the ancient Vedas (the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism) as their source and scriptural authority. These system include: Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Samkya, Yoga, Purva Mimamsa, Uttara Mimamsa (Vedanta).
Nstika schools, which do not accept the authority of the Vedas, include: Carvaka, Buddhist philosophy, Jain philosophy.
