Shanmukhi Mudra
Shanmukhi Mudra
Shanmukhi Mudra is a yogic hand gesture and pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses) technique that involves closing the six sense gateways (ears, eyes, nostrils, and mouth) using the fingers. The goal is to direct awareness inward by cutting off external sensory input.
It is often practiced as a part of Nada Yoga (yoga of inner sound) and meditative techniques that prepare the mind for deeper stages like dharana (concentration) and dhyana (meditation).
The mudra is named after Lord Kartikeya (also called Shanmukha), who has six faces. These faces symbolize the six senses or gates through which we perceive the external world. Shanmukhi Mudra represents turning inward and attaining inner wisdom and tranquility by sealing these gates.
