Description
Many ethnic minorities in the U.S. find it hard to open up to anyone outside of their immediate family, a few entrusted friends or their religious community. Although these social support networks are very helpful at times, there are other times when you may need more support than they are able to provide. When many people reach this point they start holding their feelings inside and stuffing more and more in until eventually they end up exploding or developing physical symptoms that they may not realize are signs of emotional pain as well. Many cultures undervalue the important role that acknowledging your thoughts and feelings has in the process of emotional healing. Instead, more value is placed on a person's ability to continue to bear the stressors of life alone or with the least amount of support possible.
