Chakras and Kundilini

The chakras are vital energy centers located along the central axis of the human body, connecting the physical, mental, and spiritual layers of existence.

Chakras are not explicitly detailed in early foundational texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which focuses more on mind control (chitta-vritti-nirodha). However, later tantric scriptures such as the Shiva Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and Goraksha Samhita systematically describe the chakras, their locations, symbolic attributes (like colors, petals, deities), and their role in awakening spiritual consciousness (kundalini shakti).

The Shiva Samhita (Chapter 5, Verse 68) states:

“Inside the body, in the Sushumna Nadi, there are six lotuses. The wise one should contemplate upon them in his heart.”

Each chakra symbolizes a specific plane of consciousness, starting from survival instincts (Muladhara) to pure transcendence (Sahasrara). Activation and purification of chakras through yoga, pranayama, mantra, and meditation are seen as critical to achieving liberation (moksha).

Thus, from a holistic view, chakras bridge physical health, psychological wellbeing, and spiritual evolution, offering a comprehensive path for inner awakening rooted in both practical experience and scriptural wisdom.
