Kaki Mudra
Kaki Mudra
Crow's Beak
“Kaki” in Sanskrit means “crow,” and “mudra” means “seal” or “gesture.” In this mudra, the lips are shaped like a beak—similar to a crow’s—through which air is gently drawn in. This mudra is a part of yogic pranayama practices and is often used for cooling and calming the body and mind.
Kaki Mudra is a cooling pranayama technique in which the practitioner inhales through a beak-like formation of the lips, allowing a stream of air to enter the body in a controlled and soothing way. The breath is exhaled slowly through the nose. This practice is categorized under Sheetali-type pranayamas (cooling techniques) and is traditionally used to manage internal heat, calm the nervous system, and focus the mind.
Always practice on an empty stomach, preferably early morning or in the evening. Avoid during extreme cold or if you have respiratory issues unless guided by a yoga expert.
